Chapter 3 - Statistics for Describing, Exploring, and Comparing Data - 3-2 Measures of Center - Page 91: 8

Answer

a) The mean is 703.6 hic b) The median is 630.5 hic c) There is no mode d) The mid range is 820.5 hic No the results do not suggest that all child booster seats meet the specified requirement.

Work Step by Step

a) To find the mean add up all the numbers and divide it by the number of values there are. $\frac{1210+774+649+612+546+431}{6}$= 703.6 b) Because there are 2 numbers in the middle, find the median of them. $\frac{649+612}{2}$= 630.5 c) No numbers are repeated more than once. Therefore there is no mode d) To find mid range add the maximum and minimum values and divide it by 2. $\frac{1210+431}{2}$= 820.5 Since the requirement is less then 1000 hic that means if any of the results are over that number then the results do not reflect that all the booster seats meet the requirement. There is a result of 1210 hic. Therefore the answer is no.
