(a) We can model the population of grey squirrels with an exponential function: $P(t)=P_02^{kt}$ where $P_0$ is the initial population and $k$ is a contant. Since $P(6)=2P_0$, we have $2^{6k}=2$ which gives $k=\frac{1}{6}$ Using $P(30)=100000$, we have $2^{30/6}P_0=100000$ which gives $P_0=3125$ (b) We have $t=30+10=40$, so $P(40)=3125\times2^{40/6}=317480$ (c) The function can be graphed as shown in the figure.
