Chapter 10 - Geometry - 10.7 Beyond Euclidean Geometry - Concept and Vocabulary Check - Page 675: 3

Answer

In topology, objects are classified according to the number of holes in them, called their genus.

Work Step by Step

Topology is a modern branch of geometry in which shapes, unlike Euclidean geometry, are not rigid and unchanging. In topology, shapes can be twisted, stretched, bent and shrunk. Classification of objects are made by the number of holes in them, called their genus. Objects having the same genus are topologically equivalent. The genus gives the largest number of complete cuts that can be made in the object without cutting the object into two pieces.
