Chapter 8 - Geometry - 8.4 Parallelograms and Trapezoids - 8.4 Exercises - Page 561: 21

Answer

The total area = 3.02 m$^{2}$

Work Step by Step

To find the area of the shape we simply need to break it into two shapes. A rectangle on the left side, and a parallelogram on the right. Then add the two separate areas together. Area of a rectangle = $A$$_{rect}$ = $l$$w$ Therefore: $A$$_{rect}$ = (0.8 m)(1.3 m) $A$$_{rect}$ = 1.04 m$^{2}$ Area of a parallelogram = $A$$_{parallel}$ = $b$$h$ Therefore: $A$$_{parallel}$ = (1.8 m)(1.1 m) $A$$_{parallel}$ = 1.98 m$^{2}$ $A$$_{parallel}$ + $A$$_{rect}$ = Total Area = $A$$_{total}$ $A$$_{total}$ = 1.04 m$^{2}$ + 1.98 m$^{2}$ $A$$_{total}$ = 3.02 m$^{2}$
