Step 1: Place the compass point on A. Set the compass width to about two-thirds the length of AC. The exact setting of the compass does not matter. Step 2: Draw a long arc that begins well above segment AC and ends well below the segment. Step 3: Without changing the compass' setting, place the compass point on C and draw a long arc that intersects the previous arc above and below segment AC. Step 4: Label the two arc intersection points as D and E. Using a straightedge, connect points D and E. Step 5: Segment ED is the perpendicular bisector of segment AC.
