To create ray AF: Step 1: Place the compass point on vertex A. Step 2: Adjust the compass to a width that is a little shorter than both sides AB and AC. The setting of the compass does not need to be exact. Step 3: Draw an arc across both sides of the triangle (across sides AB and AC). Label the intersection of the arc and AB as point E. Label the intersection of the arc and AC as point D. Step 4: Without changing the compass setting, place the compass point on D and draw an arc in the interior of ∠ BAC. Step 5: Without changing the compass setting, place the compass point on E and draw an arc in the interior of ∠ BAC. The two arcs created in step 4 and step 5 should intersect. Label the intersection point F. Step 6: Use a straightedge to draw a line from vertex A through point F, creating a ray. Step 7: Ray AF is the angle bisector of ∠ BAC.
