Why are the values of surrogate keys normally hidden from users on forms, queries, and reports? Since the values of a surrogate key are supplied automatically by the DBMS by randomly assigning a number, they have no real meaning to the users. Therefore, they are normally hidden because they would add no value to anything the user would see.
