Chapter P - P.3 - Linear Models and Rates of Change - Exercises - Page 30: 95

Answer

A) (graph) B) A(25) $\approx$ 445

Work Step by Step

Since 1960 is written as t=0, we know that 1970 is t=10, 1980 is t=20, 1990 is t=30, 2000 is t=40, and 2010 is t=50. For part A we can then graph the points given to us in the problem with time in years (10, 20, 30, 40, 50) on the x axis (t) and acreage on the y axis (A). We then sketch a curve to fit the points. For part B we can approximate A(25) using out graph by determining that a point between t=20 and t=30 on our graph would be just below 450, about 445.
