Chapter P - P.2 - Linear Models and Rates of Change - Exercises - Page 18: 75

Answer

1)Linear equation : F = C*1.8 +32. 2) Value for 72 F to Celsius from above equation is: C = 22.222 Celsius

Work Step by Step

relation between Celsius (C) and Fahrenheit (F): 1) 0 Celsius = 32 F and, 2) 100 Celsius = 212 F So, from above give information we can conclude that F = C + 32 but this relation only holds for 0 Celsius. So, for values more than 0 there should some multiplying factor to C. i.e F = C*x +32 We can calculate value of x by substituting values for 100 Celsius in above equation: 212 = 100*x +32 x = 1.8 Now putting this value in above equation: F = C*1.8 +32 To convert 72 F in to Celsius: 72 = C*1.8 +32 C = 22.222 Celsius
