Chapter 16 - Review - Page 567: 23

Answer

E63D

Work Step by Step

Align the addends at the decimal point and sum the digits with the same place value. In hexadecimal notation, the allowable digits are 0 - F. In standard Base 10 notation, when the sum of one of the columns is 10 or greater, you write the ones digit as the sum for that column and carry the tens digit to the next column. In hexadecimal (or Base 16) addition, the same process is used when the sum of one of the columns is 16 or greater. For example, in hexadecimal notation, F+1=10, so you would write 0 as the sum for the column and carry the 1 to the next column. $\ \ \overset16A1\,2$ $\underline{\ \ 7C2B}$ $\ \ E\underset\uparrow63D$ $\ \ \ \ A+C=16$;write the 6 in this column and carry the 1
