Chapter 11 - Section 11.2 - Arithmetic Sequences - Exercise Set - Page 840: 64

Answer

$600$

Work Step by Step

Our aim is to determine a formula for the general term of the arithmetic sequence $a_n$. Such as: $a_n=a_1+(n-1)d$ we have For company A:$a_{10}=24,000+9 (1600)=33800$ and For company B: $b_{10}=28000+9 (1000)=33200$ Thus, we can see that Company A can pay more than Company B, that is $a_{10} \gt b_{10}$ or, $d=2$ Hence, $a_{10} -b_{10}=33800-33200=600$
