A natural number greater than 1 whose factors are only 1 and itself. A prime number cannot divide evenly by any other numbers other than 1 and itself. For example 6 would not be a prime number as it can be divided by 2 and 3. The number 5 would be a prime number as it can only be evenly divided by 5 and 1 and no other number.
