Chapter 7 - Section 7.6 - Proportions and Problem Solving with Rational Equations - Exercise Set: 55

Amount of other nuts = 216

Work Step by Step

(Note: Ratio x to y is same as x:y and $\frac{x}{y}$) Ratio of peanuts to other nuts is 3 to 2 or 3:2 Now, if there are 324 peanuts, and say 'x' number of other nuts, then ratio is 324 to x. But 324 to x = 3 to 2. Thus $\frac{324}{x}$ = $\frac{3}{2}$ Cross multiplying, 3(x) = 324(2) = 648 Thus x = $\frac{648}{3}$ = 216 Thus amount of other nuts = 216
