Work Step by Step

In order to get the $y$ value what we can do is to simply plug in the $x$ value we get from setting the two equations equal to each other and solving for x in either of the equation. For example, take equation one $y=x+5$ and equation two $y= -x+2$. We have $x+5=-x+2.$ Now, take all the $x$ terms on one side and solve for $x$. Here $x= -3/2$. When we plug in that into either equation we get $y=7/2$.
