Chapter 6 - Systems of Equations and Inequalities - 6-3 Solving Systems Using Elimination - Mixed Review - Page 380: 53

Answer

a>1

Work Step by Step

Our inequality is: 4-2a < 3a-1 Our goal is to isolate the variable which in our case is "a". First, lets eliminate the two "a" terms on both side of the inequality by adding 2a to both sides. This leads us to: 4-2a < 3a-1 +2a +2a ____________ 4 < 5a -1 Now lets add 1 from both sides. This leads us to: 5 < 5a The final step to isolate the variable in our case is to divide both sides by the coefficient of the variable which is 5. This gives us: 1 < a So therefore we can write our answer as ( a > 1 ) since both inequalities mean the same.
