To find which plant grew the fastest, you divide the total height grown by the time it took to reach that height. This will give you the height grown per unit of time. In this case, inches per months (in/month). birch tree: $\frac{\text{2.5 in}}{\text{5 months}}$=$0.5$ in/month bean plant: $\frac{\text{8 in}}{\text{10 months}}$=$0.8$ in/month rose bush: $\frac{\text{5 in}}{\text{8 months}}$=$0.625$ in/month The bean plant grew the fastest.
