Chapter 4 - An Introduction to Functions - 4-5 Writing a Function Rule - Practice and Problem-Solving Exercises - Page 267: 32

Answer

The table and graph of the ordered pairs is shown below in the screenshot below. The equation for the function rule is y=$x^{2}$-1

Work Step by Step

The ordered set of pairs (-4, 15), (-3, 8), (-2, 3), (-1, 0), (0, -1), (1, 0), (2, 3), (3, 8), (4, 15) have the equation of y=$x^{2}$-1 because the relation is non linear and the exponent of the function is 2 as two x values have the same y value and the magnitude of the x values is same except the sign as one x value is positive while the other is negative. Also the equation is subtracted by 1, because when x=0, y=-1 which is the y-intercept.
