The graph and table for y=2x and y=2$x^{2}$ are shown below. For the function y=2x when you double the value of x, the y value also doubles. For the function y=2$x^{2}$ when you double the value of x, the y value is multiplied by four (quadruples).
For y=2x, when the value of x doubles the value of y doubles. For example, looking at the point (1,1) and (2,2) we see that when we double the x value and y value also doubles. For y=2$x^{2}$ the value of y quadruples when the value of x doubles. For example, looking at the point (1,2) and (2,8) we see that when we double the x value and y value is quadrupled as the 2 times 4 equals 8.
