Chapter 11 - Rational Expressions and Functions - 11-7 Graphing Rational Functions - Practice and Problem-Solving Exercises - Page 699: 29

Answer

The graph of g(x) moves three units to the right from the graph of f(x).

Work Step by Step

Adding or subtracting to the x value affects how the graph moves horizontally. Subtracting 3 actually makes it move to the right. This is the opposite of what is seems like it should do, so we must be careful. We can see this shift if we plug in numbers to the functions. f(7) = 1 g(10) = 1 To get the same output, we had to increase our x value by three in the g function.
