Chapter 7 - Exponents and Exponential Functions - 7-8 Geometric Sequences - Practice and Problem-Solving Exercises - Page 471: 48

Neither arithmetic or geometric.

Work Step by Step

You have the sequence 1,2,3,5. You have to determine if it is an arithmetic or geometric sequence: Arithmetic you have to find the common difference: 2-1=1 5-3=2 There is no common difference so this is not arithmetic. Geometric you have to find the common ratio: r=$\frac{2}{1}$=2 r=$\frac{5}{3}$=$\frac{3}{5}$ There is no common ratio. So the sequence is neither arithmetic or geometric.
