Chapter 5 - Linear Functions - 5-1 Rate of Change and Slope - Practice and Problem-Solving Exercises - Page 298: 8

Answer

Not constant

Work Step by Step

In order to determine if a rate is constant, divide the change in the dependent variable by the change in the independent variable between every two points and see if they are the same. Between 1 and 2 minutes, the distance changes by 6 meters. However, between two and three minutes, the distance changes by only 3 meters. Because 3/1 does not equal 6/1, the rate of change is not constant.
