Answer

$x=-7$

Work Step by Step

The distributive property allows us to distribute anything multiplied by something inside of the parenthesis to whatever is inside of the parenthesis. Thus, we distribute the -2 to everything inside the parenthesis, giving us $-6x-18=24.$ We now need to get the x alone. Thus, we cancel out the subtraction by adding 18 on both sides. This leaves us with the equation $-6x=42.$ In order to cancel out multiplication, we use division, so we divide both sides by -6 to get that $x=-7$.
