Chapter 2 - Fundamentals of Electric Circuits - Part 1 Circuits - Homework Problems - Page 50: 2.17

Answer

$i1 = 6.667A$

Work Step by Step

Start by applying KCL at the top node, summing the currents coming into the the node $ΣI = 10 - V/30 - i1 = 0$ where V is the voltage across all the components ( since they are in parallel) write an equation relating i1 to V $i1 = V / 15$ (using ohms law) now solve for V $10 = V( 1/30 + 1/15)$ $V = 100 Volts$ now solve for i1 using V $i1=100/15 = 6.667A$
