Chapter 1 - Exercises - Page 40: 17

Cloud computing is the technology that allows users to get access to computer system resources, especially data storage and computing power, without direct active management by the user. The term is generally used to describe data centers available to many users over the Internet. Something called Large clouds, which are widespread today, often have functions distributed over multiple locations from central servers. If the connection to the user is relatively close, it may be designated an edge server. Potentially, everything from generic word processing software to customized computer programs designed for a specific company could work on a cloud computing system. One of the main reasons someone might want to rely on this technology is the ability to access applications and data from anywhere at any time, using any computer linked to the Internet. Another important reason is the fact that it would reduce the need for advanced and expensive hardware on the client side. Some of the main disadvantages are the risk of failure, loss of data, security and privacy-related issues, vulnerability to attacks and limited control and flexibility.
