Swords and Deviltry Irony

Supporting Mouse

Ivrian is the daughter of Duke, but she ironically joins forces with Mouse to finish her biological father. Mouse is on a revenge mission to destroy Duke after learning that he was directly responsible for the death of Rho. When Duke discovers that Mouse is using magic to kill him, he sends his men, who catch up with Mouse and detain him. Ironically, Ivrian helps Mouse to escape, and they move together to stage how they can finish her father. Mouse and Ivrian have become powerful wizards, and they use black magic, which successfully destroys Duke. Therefore, Ivrian's move to join her father's enemy is ironic because she should have stood on her father's side to finish Mouse.

The paradox of Vlana

When the snow women attack Vlana with snowballs, she is left injured, but she is saved by Fafhrd, who nurses her injuries until she recovers. Fafhrd and Vlana start an affair and promise to marry each other after escaping from the Cold Corner. Ironically, Vlana meets another man, and she betrays Fafhrd when she runs away with her new man. When Fafhrd follows them, the Magic of Mor kills the man. Fafhrd saves Vlana, and she apologizes.

Embracing civilization

One of the primary ironies that cannot be ignored in "Snow Women" is Fafhrd's decision to break away from his culture to embrace civilization when he was still a young boy. Fafhrd is brought up by a mother who is a powerful witch and famous for controlling the men. However, she cannot control her young boy, who wants to be civilized like the southern people. By eighteen, Fafhrd manages to move to the southern cities, where he embraces civilized culture.
