Written by American author Rachel Vincent, this book tells the story of graduate student Faythe Sanders, who has a dark secret. It is revealed that she is a werecat, a creature with powerful and magical powers. Despite pressure from her family and peers, Faythe decides to go to university to lead an independent life.
However, Faythe is targeted by a "stray", who senses her presence nearby. Faythe has been warned about strays before and knows that they are dangerous werecats without a pack, who are looking out to catch other werecats. Although she senses danger Faythe isn't prepared to let any strays take away her independence and opportunities.
When other female werecats go missing, Faythe knows she must do something to help them. As such, in the novel she shows great strength in order to save her friends. She says, "Watch out, Strays - cause I got claws, and I'm not afraid to use them."
