    Discussion: Abortion

    Kind of Activity:

    Group Discussion

    Objective:

    Students will be able to explore the controversial topic of abortion; to research abortion practices throughout history; to place Wendla’s story in an historical context

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.11-12.1

    Structure:

    In the play, Wendla tragically dies of a botched abortion. Today, students will discuss and consider the practice of abortion throughout history and in present day. Begin this activity by noting that abortion is a sensitive topic that often evokes a variety of strong feelings; remind students to remain respectful of everyone’s beliefs.
