The Sirens of Titan Lesson Plan

Relationship to Other Books

The Sirens of Titan is Vonnegut's second book and largely considered his first success. It was preceded by Player Piano (1952) and succeeded by Mother Night (1962). Other major works of Vonnegut that deal with the themes of free will, religion, meaning, and inequality include Slaughterhouse-Five (1969), Cat's Cradle (1963), and Breakfast of Champions (1973). Other novels contemporary to The Sirens of Titan that deal with similar themes are Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sleep?, Ursula K. Le Guin's Hainish Cycle, Thomas Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 49, Albery Camus's The Stranger, and Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale.
