Published in 1966, ten years after Sudan gained its independence, Season of Migration to the North grapples with the effects of British colonialism on Sudan. Upon gaining independence, factions within the country were divided on which type of government would reign, which ultimately resulted in two civil wars. While this conflict is not directly addressed in the novel, its shadow is present.
