The importance of support from the family

The story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg shows the importance of support from the family from the young age. She was eager to learn and educate herself from the very young age, which was thanks to her parents, her mother who instilled in her the importance of education for a young woman. She was fortunate enough to live in a happy family which supported instead of subdued her in the time that made it difficult for young women to succeed. Her husband is another important factor in her success, who was ahead of his time and wasn’t afraid to be a supportive partner in all of her ambitions and aspirations.

A woman taking a man’s place

Being accepted into Harvard Law School, Ruth faces the most open and degrading form of discrimination because of her sole existence as a woman. Her ambition was criticized under the excuse of her taking a man’s place who needed it more than her because women aren't supposed to have strong career positions. Ruth’s career will be inspired by this discrimination and inspire her battle against ingrained inequality between the sexes. Her identity as a woman didn’t stop her from taking the highest position at the Supreme Court because her abilities and credentials were undeniable.

An icon

In recent years, Ruth has sealed her position as pop culture icon because of her outspokenness and her voicing the opinions of the people. She was regarded as a feminist force, a role-model, a legend to her supporters. She became a voice of the people because of openly sharing and voicing her concerns, but also because of her understated manner in her critique. This also gained her the nickname Notorious RBG, which is a play on her initials inspired by the famous rapper.
