A Red, Red Rose
The poem "A Red, Red Rose" by Robert Burns is about the poet’s beloved and her beauty. The poem begins with a simile where he says that his beloved is like a red rose that newly blossomed in the month of June. He then calls her a melody which is sweetly played in tune. He says that his beloved is so beautiful and he will love her till all the seas dry up. He bids her farewell for a short period and promises that he will return.
Ae means only or sole in Scottish dialect, and thus the poem "Ae Fond Kiss" by Robert Burns is about the last kiss with his beloved before he bid her farewell. This narration is sad and grieving the parting of lovers. The poem opens with the last kiss as the poet is severed from his beloved for forever. He laments the loss and even goes to the extent of wishing that if that not blindly and kindly loved each other, the pain would have been lot lesser. He says that his love for his beloved was genuine and pure and he will continue to love her always.
