    What is ironic about the various conversations that Anne has with the residents of Uppercross House and Cottage?

    Dramatic irony humorously shows the full meaning of a sentiment being unknown to the speaker, showing it as unexpected or opposite. Because we see all of the family at Uppercross confiding in Anne, we can see the irony of the situation as a whole—none of them is fully content with the behavior of the others, and considers themselves to be the only helpful one in the situation. Anne of course can see that they are all blaming each other for the same problems—e.g. the behavior of the little Musgrove boys. Mary blames Charles and their grandmother for spoiling them,...
