Over to You Summary

Over to You is a book containing ten short stories of Roald Dahl. “A Piece of Cake” is the first story where Dahl narrates how his plane crashed over the desert in Libya. Dahl is a pilot, and along with his colleague, Peter, they land in Fouka, where they find other members of the RAF. One airman warns Dahl to be cautious, but he (Dahl) dismisses the caution as ‘a piece of cake,’ hence, the short story's title. Dahl and Peter fly over the Libyan Desert, but their plane crashes and catches fire. The author asserts that he becomes conscious after spending four days in a hospital.

“Beware of the Dog” is a short story describing how RAF pilot Peter Williamson flies and crashes over Vichy France. Williamson becomes conscious in a hospital in Brighton. After waking up, he discovers a wooden sign with the words “Garde au Chien,” meaning ‘beware of the dog’ in English. As well, he realizes that all the caregivers around him are Germans masquerading as Britons. “Someone like you” is another short story from the book which describes two bomber pilots having a conversation about the war while taking alcohol. The two pilots are agitated by the presence of more people in the pub and decide to go to another bar to imbibe alcohol.

“Yesterday was Beautiful” is about a British pilot who hops from a plane and lands on an island. The pilot asks for a boat to return to his home country. However, people living on the island are reluctant to help him get the boat. “Madame Rosette” is another story narrating how three pilots rescue young girls from a brothel run by a woman called Madame Rosette. The three pilots lock the woman up and take the girls to a nearby bar for partying. After the partying, the pilots take the girls to their respective homes.
