    What is significance in the story of slaves being given new names? Is there symbolism in this fact?

    Answers will vary, and they will be interpretive. Strong answers may infer that new names symbolize the loss or even robbery of identity and heritage. They may explain that their names are taken away and new names are given, implying an ownership over the named. Strong answers will also explain that Caesar's name is given by a master who respects him, and that his name obviously symbolizes his royalty. He is not treated like the other slaves, and his name symbolizes the difference. These should reference text that indicates he is treated differently.
