The film had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on September 2, 2016.[64] It also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2016,[65][66] the New York Film Festival on October 2, 2016,[67][68] the BFI London Film Festival on October 6, 2016[69] and the Vancouver International Film Festival on October 7, 2016.[70] The film was released to select theaters on October 21, 2016,[71] before beginning a wide release on November 18, 2016.[72][73] The full UK cinema release was on February 17, 2017.[74]
Marketing
The film's poster reflects its triptych structure, combining the three actors portraying Chiron into a single face.[75] The trailer for the film was released on August 11, 2016, in time for festival season. Mark Olsen of the Los Angeles Times referred to it "as one of the most anticipated films for fall".[76]
On February 27, 2017, the day after the Academy Awards, Calvin Klein released an underwear advertising campaign featuring four of the male actors in the film.[77] On March 7, 2017, Beijing-based streaming video service iQiyi announced that it has acquired the rights to stream the film in China.[78] The film is also available in home media format through iTunes and DVD.[79]
