Moon Witch, Spider King Summary

Moon Witch, Spider King Summary

Moon Witch, Spider King is the second Dark Star trilogy of Marlon James. The main character in the book is a woman called Sogolon. Sogolon is a bold woman who challenged tracker while searching for a missing boy in the first trilogy, Black Leopard, Red Wolf. The intrepid woman also known as Moon Witch reflects her life since she was a young girl. Sogolon starts her narrative by describing how as a young girl she had a mysterious dream that bewildered her. The dream involved a young girl who lived in the anthill while her siblings lived in an enormous hut.

The narrative by Sogolon depicts a valiant woman who does not slow down on her mission to accomplish what she believes is the truth. As a young girl, Sogolon hated herself due to name-calling by people around her. The mystique powers caught up with her at a young age. Due to her magical powers, people started calling her a monster. The daring actions she undertakes before becoming a conqueror emboldens her to soldier on even in the wake of difficulties.

Sogolon survives many tragedies that harden her off. For instance, she picked a fight with her boss when he tried to rape her. Besides, Sogolon’s main adversary is Aesi, a close confidant of the king. Sogolon asserts that she has witnessed the fall of many powerful men and the current king cannot scare her with threats. Looking back at her life, Sogolon is not remorseful and seems to have enjoyed every moment. The memories presented in the book make readers more connected to Sogolon as a character.
