What do Violet and Malone think of each other, and why?
Malone seems to be surprised by how much he likes and respects Violet. Before long, he is intimidated by her practical and forceful way of seeing things, including her relationship with his son. Violet seems to be almost disappointed by Malone, thinking that she would find him forceful and powerful but instead seeing him as romantic and a bit lost. However, she seems almost immediately able to size him up and figure out how she can win his favor in a way that would benefit both her and her marriage.
