Love! Valour! Compassion! Summary

Love! Valour! Compassion! Summary

The play revolves around the life of Gregory Mitchell, as he spends his summer preparing for a major world dance performance that will take place in New York. Although he is middle-aged, he has a much younger boyfriend called Bobby, who is in his twenties and works as an assistant at a law firm. Gregory invites his other gay friends to his vacation house by the lake so that they can spend the holiday weekends celebrating together.

The play quickly moves on and we as the audience begin to see how each of the guests are connected to each other, despite the wide-ranging jobs that they each have, during their lifetime they have all had some connection to Gregory, and now wish to support him for his greatest choreography feat yet. The surprising story behind how Arthur and Perry met and now live and work together is revealed to the audience, as well as their strong relationship with each other.

Throughout the play, there are various sub-plots that serve as a way of keeping the audience engaged throughout. We see the relationship between Buzz and James blossom, in spite of their tragic AIDS situation, and how Gregory's friends all comfort him after his break-up with Bobby in order to ensure that Gregory manages to complete his dance routine in time for his big New York showcase at the end of the summer.
