Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History Themes

Feminism

Harrison cannot stress enough about how this book is essential for all feminists. The core of her message is the idea that women too can solve global problems, no matter how big or small and effect change in the same fashion as men, if not better. Women of color in the United States of America have always been at a disadvantage for having to first deal with their minority status in racial hierarchies, and then their plight as women in a society that is not equal or tipped in their favor. Katherine Johnson had to go through a lot of hurdles like segregation, racism, and abuse to achieve a once in a lifetime discovery that changed the fates of all humanity. Through this book, women are championed at all levels of life.

Pursuing Dreams

The author’s main goal in this book was to allow readers to explore the lives of these great women. By stepping in their shoes and getting to understand their story, it can inspire and influence you to pursue things that seem impossible to everyone. The notion that is often spread in unjust societies is the idea that you cannot succeed in life because of your racial background. In their everyday life, the reader should always strive to make the gap between them and their goal a little smaller by remaining faithful to the vision.

Change

Change is an essential tool in achieving everything in this book. The idea that everything changes inspire actions to take down walls and build up others in the name of effecting necessary systemic reshuffles that improves the lives of the people affected. No matter how big or small a change you make as an individual, as long as it affects some meaningful and significant change then it is by all means worth it. The bigger the change the smaller it’s beginnings were, always climbing gradually to the top.
