Why does Amy not claim her inheritance from her birth mother?

Although Amy loses her father's inheritance to Mr. Meagle's money scam why does she not claim the other inheritance she has from Arthur's family? This is the money left to her through her real birth mother.

Sorry - this should say "from Arthur's birth mother" not "her birth mother". Also, to be more specific, I am questioning why she doesn't claim the inheritance after Arthur finds out who his real mother is. Is he not informed of the connection to Amy when he finds out about his birth mother?

Also, who tells Arthur about his real mother? How does he find out?

Amy never claimed the money because she did not know about the money. Ms Clemmons did not inform her because if the legacy would have been made public than her husband/Author's father's affair would have been found out. Therefore she kept it a secret because she was an overly religious woman who could not deal with such scandal of an unfaithful husband.

He finds out about the legacy at the end of the book and finds that he was taken away from his real mother. The Legacy tells him of his real mother. This is something that Ms Clemmons has done her best to keep him from, and she justifies her actions with her religous beliefs.
