I Know This to Be True: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Summary

I Know This to Be True: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Summary

“It takes not only talent, but willingness to work hard, to make dreams come true.” This was a line stated by the late Ruth Ginsburg, the second female Justice in the US Constitution, and marks the foundation of her efforts in fighting against discrimination, whether it be racial, or gender based, throughout the course of her late time.

In this book, we are taken through the vast legal career of Ginsburg and the key cases she was involved in during her lifetime. Her work in securing women’s rights was essential towards building the fabric of the society we live in now, particularly in the US. She discusses how she faced injustice for being a woman in the competitive field of law, and even more so because of her Jewish background.

She also stated that "Women will only have true equality when men share with them the responsibility of bringing up the next generation." Her reason for saying this was due to her fantastic relationship with her feminist husband, Martin, who let her flourish in the court room instead of holding her back because of her gender.

Ultimately, Ginsburg’s life revolved around making the work a better place to live in, regardless of gender or race. She concludes that one “should use [their] education and [their] talent to help make things a little better for people who are not as fortunate.”.
