Notes to the Teacher

The play opens with a lot of references to geography and Greek mythology, which can be confusing. Take this slowly in order to prepare students for the rest of the play.

The play also contains misogyny, rape, and suicide, although not in a graphic way. Teachers should approach these themes with care and warn their class about them in advance, with the understanding that some students may have dealt very personally with these traumas.
