Into the wild Chapter 18: Chris’s Final Days

Krakauer spends a lot of time investigating the cause of Chris's death. It's almost as if he is fixated on understanding why he died. Why does his cause of death matter so much to Krakauer?

I think that Chris really reminds Krakauer of himself. Krakauer delves into his own personal history that was not unlike Chris's. Krakauer sees the same flaws and strengths in himself as he does in Chris.

How do you interpret Chris's death ? Do you believe he was incompetent and reckless or someone who made an innocent mistake ? Does how he died even matter ? Or is the story of McCabe less about his life not his death ? Explain your interpretation throughly comparing it to keakauers own interpretation in into the wild
