Gun Monkeys Metaphors and Similes

The office

"The office was like a dungeon, with its black walls and dim lighting, and I half expected to see a rack or iron maiden in the corner," which appears in chapter 11, is an example of a simile. It compares the appearance of the office to that of a dungeon because of its dark, oppressive, and occasionally violent atmosphere.

Chinese moon gate

"Her face was a perfect oval, like a Chinese moon gate," which appears in chapter 8, compares the shape of the woman's face to a Chinese moon gate, which is a circular opening in a garden wall. The comparison suggests that the woman's face is aesthetically pleasing and serene.

The restaurant and fish tank

The line "The restaurant was like a fish tank, all glass and bright lights, and the diners were like the fish inside, swimming in their own little worlds" is an example of a simile. This simile in Chapter 4 compares the restaurant to a fish tank, emphasizing its transparent and brightly lit design. The diners are likewise likened to fish, who swim around in their own little worlds, unaware of the larger dangers surrounding them.

Darkness and the beast

"The darkness swallowed us like a ravenous beast" is an example of a simile. This simile, which appears in chapter 3, likens the darkness to a ravenous beast, emphasizing its voracious, violent, and all-consuming nature. The metaphor suggests that the darkness is a dangerous force that can engulf and overwhelm the characters.

The moon and the silver coin

"The moon was a silver coin in the sky" is an example of a metaphor. This metaphor, which appears in chapter 6, compares the moon to a silver coin and emphasizes its round, beautiful, and reflective qualities. The comparison suggests that the moon is a valuable and beautiful object in the sky.
