“Feminine Instinct”- -“Dream Children”

Godwin explains, “She has nothing to fear anymore, thought the farmer's wife, with sure feminine instinct; she both envied and pitied her. "What she needs are children." " The ‘feminine instinct’ influences the farmer’s wife’s conclusion about the main issue which could be distressing Mr. McNair’s spouse. Being feminine offers the farmer’s wife an edge in understanding Mr. McNair’s wife’s distress which influences her to ride her horse carelessly.

Pills-“False Lights”

Annette Bandema writes, “Along with this note, there should arrive a small parcel containing Karl’s pills. I don’t know if you have a doctor on the island, so I took the liberty of having Karl’s old prescription refilled. At the moment his weight goes over 185, he should take one of these every morning after breakfast.” The pills are significant symbols which update the reader about Mrs. Karl’s condition which is probably obesity. They would be helpful in controlling his situation so it would not get worse. His wife has the responsibility of ensuring that the pills are consumed as required and at the convenient time.
