In this section, it seems that Victor's education and focus seem to have been set out since the beginning of time by Destiny..... that it was unavoidable. Victor shares the way he became disenchanted with Natural Philosophy and was more interested in the "solid foundations" of math and its associated disciplines. Looking back on this period, Frankenstein says it was ...the last effort made by the spirit of preservation to avert the storm that was even then hanging in the stars.
