Consider "dark phrases." How is this opening similar to the beginning of other plays you have read or seen? How is it different?
The students should establish their understanding that this is not a play with traditional characters or narrative structure. Take some to discuss the ways this play might more resemble Ancient Greek theater, focusing on a play that is familiar to your class. Discuss how the characters are archetypal, and discuss how the women singing all together might resemble a Greek chorus.
