Ella Enchanted Irony

Ella Enchanted Irony

Terribly delicious soup

When Ella is fourteen, she and her mother catch cold. Mandy cooks a curative soup for them, which is “made with celery, carrot, leeks and…hair from a unicorn’s tail”. It is tasty, but Ella and Lady Eleanor hate to see these hairs in the soup. The irony is that despite the hairs, which are floating in the soup, Ella and her mom eat this soup with admiration.

Ella’s temper

Ella is confident that the damnation of Lucinda “makes her not docile, but, on the contrary, terribly willful”. Although, perhaps, Ella has such temper by nature. The irony is based on the fact that despite the gift of obedience, Ella is not obedient, but stubborn, although Ella does not know exactly why she is such a rebel.

Charming daughters

When Sir Peter first sees Olga’s daughters, he is delighted and agrees that “they are lovely daughters”. Nevertheless, Olga calls them her “treasures”. It is so ironic, because Sir Peter has no idea about the fact that Hattie and Olive are so stupid and narcissistic girls.
