Kierkegaard is talking about the illusory nature of sex but the reader already understands that he has just broken up with his fiancée. He paints the image of sexual deception by mentioning Don Juan and Johanne to help the reader have a clear of how deceptive sexual relationships can be. However, it is easy for the reader to conclude that Kierkegaard fears commitment and responsibility and that is the primary reason why he broke up with his fiancée.
