Ask students to list the characters they have met so far in The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Make a list on the board, including brief descriptions of their personalities, inasmuch as they appear (we know more about Utterson than Enfield, for instance, and might have some uncertainty about Dr Lanyon). Ask students to shorten and refine these descriptions, until they contain few enough words...
